About us
Your windows. Our family’s name.
We’re Mike and Jon Franzone. For more than 25 years we have helped Chicagoland families choose and look after their window treatments — and in all that time Hang & Shine has stayed family run and owner operated.
How it started
An ad, a garage and a lot of flyers
Mike was working for a carpet cleaning company when he spotted an advert for ultrasonic blind cleaning. Nobody was offering it locally. That was the whole business plan.
Jon came on board after finishing college, and the two of them went door to door handing out flyers. When somebody said yes, they collected the blinds, cleaned them in their parents’ garage, and brought them back the same evening.
It worked. The business outgrew the garage into a commercial space, then added mobile trucks so the cleaning could happen in an office car park instead of ours. Somewhere along the way customers started asking whether we could just supply the new blinds too — and that is how the sales and installation side began.
Still the two of us
We measure, we order, we install, and we come back when something needs adjusting. No subcontracted crews, no handing you off.
Why it matters
We cleaned them before we sold them
Starting in cleaning rather than sales turns out to be an unusually good education. You see which products survive fifteen years and which fall apart in three. You see what a bad installation looks like once the brackets have had a decade to work loose.
By the time we started selling new blinds, shades and shutters, we had a fairly settled opinion about what is worth putting in someone’s house.
- Hunter Douglas and Alta Window Fashions — two brands, 23 products
- Our own installers — never a subcontracted crew
- In-home design — samples in your light, not under showroom bulbs
- Cleaning and repair in house — we service what we sell, and what we did not
- Residential and commercial — homes, offices, medical suites, schools

On the road
You’ve probably seen the van
Carol Stream to Elgin, Hinsdale to Bartlett — six days a week, most weeks, since 1998.

Buy something built to the window, have it fitted properly, and keep it clean. It will outlast three cheap replacements.
